jellyfish skirt

additional views

This skirt was the result of an assignment to make a wearable sculpture that would simulate the senses of an animal we researched. I researched jellyfish because I was interested in learning how their senses worked, and I learned that they detect vibrations in the ocean through their tentacles, so I wanted to create a skirt that mimicked that sense of touch. My idea was to make a jellyfish-like skirt with long hanging "tentacles" of satin and ribbon (decorated with beads) that would move with the wind and brush against my legs so that I could detect the movement of the air around me.
