One of the most valuable skills I learned during my freshman year at VCU: coptic bookbinding. Ironically, my teacher didn't even teach me this skill; I learned by reading tutorials and watching videos on the internet. I made this particular book for my boyfriend as an abstract and very intimate love letter I wrote to him for Christmas one year. The book itself is made from various craft papers bound together by hand; the text and images were printed on the individual pages or drawn in colored pencil before I bound them. The book also comes with a hand-crocheted pouch to protect it from damage. |
