- History
- Although I've been very interested in art and creative activities ever since I was very young, I first began drawing regularly in 1995 or 1996, shortly after I accidentally first stumbled on the anime Sailor Moon. Since then, I've been very interested in drawing anime-style characters, but I do also enjoy drawing from observation, and I understand the importance of drawing from life and studying anatomy, composition, and other fundamentals of art.
- Education
- Associate of arts and sciences degree in general studies with a specialization in visual arts, 2008
- Completed College Courses
- History and Appreciation of Art I and II: A two-part survey course mainly focused on western art starting from about 30,000 B.C. up to the present.
- Drawing I and II: Studio classes mainly involving the use of charcoal and ink to draw from observation.
- Painting I and II: Studio classes focusing on using oil and canvas to paint still lifes and other subject matter from observation.
- Computer Graphics I: Course focusing on the use of Adobe Illustrator CS2 and Photoshop CS2 to create computer graphics.
- Preferred Media
- Traditional: Charcoal or Prismacolor pencils on generic sketchbook paper.
- Digital: Adobe Photoshop CS2 with 4x5 Wacom Graphire 2 tablet (but hoping to upgrade to an Intuos in a larger size in the future).
- Preferred Subject Matter
- For the most part, I enjoy drawing people and figures even when I'm not slacking off and drawing silly anime characters. I haven't had very many opportunities to do life drawings with models, so I usually end up drawing from photographs in art books or magazines, photos of myself, or stock photos from the internet. Occasionally, when I have the patience for it I will sometimes draw myself in a mirror, or when my boyfriend is willing to sit for me sometimes I will draw him.
I've also grown to love drawing still lifes, thanks to my art instructor at Patrick Henry Community College. However, while I enjoy drawing the typical vases, cups, and fruit, I usually choose to draw objects that are interesting for me to look at or draw, such as a My Little Pony from my collection or a stuffed animal. That way I can practice drawing from life while still drawing something silly and fun.
